U.S. reduces tariff rates for some Canadian newsprint producers

August 7, 2018 – The U.S. government has reduced some of the anti-dumping and countervailing duties that will affect Canadian newsprint producers after outcry from American businesses that say they would suffer because of it.
The Canadian Press reports that Catalyst Paper’s tariff will be 20.26 per cent instead of the 28.25 per cent announced earlier this year, and Kruger’s rate was also lowered.
However, tariffs for Resolute Forest Products, White Birch Paper and other Canadian producers increased.
