SPEED AND RELIABILITY WITH ALS 380

LONDON, ENGLAND — Advanced Labelling Systems has enabled Burton Engineering to increase the speed and reliability of its Omega range of paper converting machines with the help of the ALS 380 high-speed labelling head.

The compact design of the ALS 380, which makes extensive use of stainless steel and synthetic materials, provides extremely high levels of accuracy at dispensing speeds of up to 1,000 labels per minute.

GL&V + METSO = WORLD’S LARGEST BOARD MACHINE

MONTREAL, QC — GL&V has been awarded, through its subsidiary GL&V Finland Oy, to supply disc filters and centrifugal cleaners systems to Metso Paper, Rautpohja, Finland for their new project in Ningbo, China.

Metso Paper is the contractor of a new board machine for coated recycled board type WLC (White Lined Chipboard) and will also supply a stock preparation system for 8 pulp lines, plus a double-sided precoating unit and a coating unit with 5 stations for Ning Shing Development Co., a company jointly owned by the Chinese government and APP (Asia Pulp & Paper Co. Ltd.)

MABAREX WINS ENERGY EFFICIENCY AWARD

MONTREAL, QC — Mabarex Inc. wins Canada’s Energy Efficient Award for the Process Improvement – Large Energy Users category for its Dry-Rex Biomass Dryer. Pulp and paper mills spend thousands yearly on waste materials disposal and on energy for processing wood pulp. Mabarex’s technology reduces waste, generates fuel and reduces energy consumption.

EKA AND CELULOSA IN CHILE

SANTIAGO, CHILE — Eka Chemicals Sweden, a business unit in Akzo Nobel, and Celulosa Arauco y Constitucin S.A. Chile have agreed to form a joint venture, Eka Chile S.A. The company will be the biggest producer of sodium chlorate in Latin America, a bleaching chemical for the pulp industry. The new company will invest in a new plant for chlorate production, which will be built adjacent to the existing chlorate plant in Talcahuano, Chile. The total capacity for sodium chlorate on the location will be 85,000 tonnes per year.
