Voith announced the addition of the QView press sleeve to its QualiFlex product family.

Web breaks and paper jams are among the rare but real problems in paper production. With each such incident, invisible damage can arise inside the press sleeve. Voith has designed the QView press sleeve to help make inside damage visible with the intention of equipping papermakers with the ability to take action before severe failures happen.

The press sleeve is a predictive maintenance solution for board and packaging paper machines. It complements the established portfolio of Voith QualiFlex press sleeves.

Voith has stated in a release that the advantages of the product are achieved by two novel featuView res. Voith has used dyed lubrication oil and a special-coloured polyurethane for the press sleeve. Possible cracks in the press sleeve absorb the dyed oil and, when exposed to UV light, a strong contrast between the intact area with no oil and the damage becomes visible. Due to its special colour, the press sleeve allows the UV light to shine through and makes inspection as well as real predictive maintenance easy. QView functions as an early warning system that can help reduce unplanned paper machine shutdowns.
