West Fraser is investigating the possibility of a power generation facility in BC with EPCOR. The biomass-fueled 50-70 megawatt facility would be located in the area of Houston, BC.

While the project is still in the pre-feasibility stage, a decision is expected on whether or not it will proceed by late 2008. If it does indeed go ahead, it will be developed as part of BC Hydro’s Phase II bio-energy Request for Proposal process.

The economic viability of the project needs to be confirmed by both West Fraser and EPCOR, and is contingent upon their successful bidding in the BC Hydro process.

The facility would use sawmill waste, as well as forest residuals from harvesting activities such as slash and tree limbs, and low-grade beetle-killed wood.
