The ink has dried on a $50,000 cheque from Weyerhaeuser Company to the Deschutes Basin Land Trust for its Metolius Preserve in Central Oregon.
The land trust also acquired 1,240 acres of forestland located north of Sisters from Weyerhaeuser last year. "From the start Weyerhaeuser has been pivotal in making this project a success," Brad Chafant, the trust’s executive director said of the donation. "As we come down the final stretch in this $3.1 million capital campaign, the gift of $50,000 is really a huge boost to our stewardship efforts."
In cooperation with landowners and communities, the land trust works to protect natural resources such as productive farm and forest land, natural areas, historic structures and recreational areas.
