Residents of Hudson Bay now have further discouraging news to digest.

Just over three weeks have lapsed since Weyerhaeuser confirmed plans to shut down its plywood mill in Hudson Bay, and sawmill in Carrot River. Now, the company has told employees it additionally intends to temporarily close its oriented strand board mill, located next to the plywood facility, in Hudson Bay.

According to a report by the StarPhoenix, the mill will stop production on December 22, 2006, and will start up again on January 8, 2007.

Although no notices of layoffs have been released along with this latest announcement, townspeople are concerned.

“I don’t feel I have any stability here,” the StarPhoenix reported an OSB worker as saying. “People are mad and looking at other employment.”

The report further confirmed that Weyerhaeuser has been conspicuously silent in the aftermath of the announcements.
