Cascades presents new exhibition on women in pulp and paper

May 3, 2019 – Cascades is co-hosting a temporary exhibition in Kingsey Falls, Quebec that highlights the role of women in the pulp and paper industry.

The Femmes de papier exhibition, produced by the Boréalis Centre (a paper industry museum located in Trois-Rivières), presents history through the day-to-day lives of women from a range of pulp and paper environments – from women who defied convention in a traditionally male-dominated industry by working in production and management, to housewives, cooks in logging camps an plant secretaries.

“This exhibition has particular significance for us,” says Mario Plourde, president and CEO of Cascades. “Throughout the company’s history, women have played, and continue to play, an important part in Cascades’ success. I am very happy to be able to pay tribute to them through this fascinating exhibition.”

Suzanne Blanchet, president and COO of the Cascades Tissue Group from 1997 to 2014, says, “I was honoured to be involved in this magnificent exhibition by sharing my story and my experience.

“And I feel great pride seeing new female talent blossoming daily in an industry that was long seen as a male preserve.”

The exhibition is presented by Cascades, the town of Kingsey Falls, Canadian Heritage (through its Museums Assistance Program), the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications (through its project assistance program), the city of Trois-Rivières and Culture Trois-Rivières.

Femmes de papier runs from May 3 to June 16, 2019 at the Pavillon des loisirs located at the 2, rue Pinard in Kingsey Falls, on Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Group visits outside these hours can also be arranged. Admission is free.
