TAPPI offers intro to kraft pulping and bleaching course for 10th year

July 11, 2019  By P&PC Staff

July 11, 2019 – Registration is now open for TAPPI’s 2019 Introduction to Kraft Pulping and Bleaching Course, running Aug. 13-14 in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, within metropolitan Atlanta.

The course, now in its 10th year, is presented by Michael Kocurek, Ph.D., professor emeritus of paper science and engineering at North Carolina State University. According to Kocurek, the course is designed for anyone who wants a better understanding of kraft pulping operations and processes, pulp grades and products, and market demand. It is ideal for those new to the industry, including process engineers and operators, and those with experience who want to enhance job performance.

All attendees are offered a pre-course survey to determine learning objectives. New this year, participants will also receive a digest of industry innovations and developments extracted from TAPPI PEERS proceedings, publications and top news resources.

“Participants expand their overall understanding of kraft pulp mill operations, including a broadened awareness of how one part of the process effects other operations, and the effect of processes on kraft pulp quality,” says Kocurek. “Additionally, participants learn how to troubleshoot product quality problems, gain the ability to improve kraft mill operations and get a broad view of the entire process rather than a detailed focus on just one or two operations.”

Those attendees who finish the course in its entirety receive 1.3 CEUs.
