BASF is adding a surcharge for all kaolin products manufactured in its plant in Georgia, US. The surcharge is effective immediately or as specified by contract. According to BASF, the culprit is rising natural-gas prices.

In March, the NYMEX settlement price of US$8.93 per million BTUs jumped past the US$8 per-million-BTU threshold set by BASF in the existing kaolin energy-surcharge program initially set up in October, 2005.

To get exact figures on the surcharge, clients using BASF kaolin products are advised to contact their local BASF sales representative. Depending upon the closing price for natural gas at each months end, the energy surcharge will be modified as appropriate.
