After a four-week shutdown, Bowater’s Fort William First Nation sawmill in Thunder Bay is scheduled to reopen.
Operations were suspended at the mill on May 21, 2004 in response to reported wood fibre shortages. This raised the eyebrows of union officials who claimed to have witnessed saw-logs being diverted to the company’s pulp and paper division. However, ameliorated weather conditions are being credited with the ability of woodlands workers to gain access to areas with stands of timber.
