According to the Banff Crag & Canyon (May 18, 2004), a semi-truck carrying rolls of paper was engulfed in flames on the Trans-Canada Highway in the west end of Yoho National Park in May of this year. The truck was driving westbound when the BC Commercial Vehicle Inspection Service pulled over the truck after the inspector noticed smoke coming from the brakes. National park wardens, Field EMS, BC RCMP, and volunteer fire departments from both Field and Lake Louise responded. The driver sustained minor injuries. The Trans-Canada was closed for approximately three and a half hours, and then switched to single lane alternating for another two hours, when full traffic flow was restored.
