Cascades Inc. together with its European partner, Le tribunal du Commerce de Soissons, bought Socit Greenfield SA, near Paris, France. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Greenfield was established in 1997 and is the most important European producer of de-inked pulp, also the first European plant to produce market pulp from recycled paper. Its products are sold to fine paper, packaging and tissue producers throughout Europe and overseas. It has a capacity of approximately 150,000 metric tons of air-dried de-inked pulp, but the full potential of the mill was never achieved given technical and financial difficulties.
The mill has been operating under French bankruptcy-court protection since December 2002.
