Recognizing the creativity of mill staff, Pulp & Paper Canada is once again sponsoring the Gadget Competition and the Energy Conservation Opportunity Awards. These two competitions showcase the ideas and ingenuity of workers in the Canadian pulp and paper industry. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 13.

The Energy Conservation Opportunity Awards are presented for conservation ideas or successful projects related to energy conservation. Entries are judged on the degree of innovation, applicability within the pulp and paper industry, return on investment, size of savings, simplicity of installation, and ease of implementation. Has anyone at your mill fabricated a tool or accessory that makes their job easier? Take a few moments to submit the idea to the Gadget Competition. Previous winners include a cable winder, doctor bracket aligning pin, and a tool carrier. Submissions should be sent to jlemieux@paptac.ca.

Both competitions are administered by committees of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada. Winners will be announced at the PAPTAC Annual Meeting, Feb. 2-3, 2010, in Montreal.
