CHARLOTTE, NC — Beacon E-Commerce has launched a Web-site that is aimed at manufacturers, purchasing agents and process engineers who want information on filters and filtration products, in what is a global industry valued at billions of dollars a year. The site, eFilter (www.efilter.com), contains information on more than 75 000 products used in such areas as mills, laboratories and refineries. The site also includes the most extensive digital library in the world dedicated to helping process engineers and purchasing agents understand the exact use of filters in more than 100 applications. Steven E. Moeller, a company spokesman, said, “We believe that the industrial-supply industry provides a huge online opportunity to streamline the purchasing process, while providing customers more perfect information on the products they buy to manage plants and equipment.” For example, users can engage trained application engineers in live chat directly over the Internet, anytime they have a specific question on application specifications or use of the filter — and all that for free. The dot-com also expects to attract users by promising to reduce the cost of procurement by as much as 70%.
