Paper Excellence chief operating officer Jean-Francois Guillot co-hosted a tour of the historic Resolute paper mill in Gatineau, Quebec, on September 20, alongside Member of Parliament Steven MacKinnon. The tour was arranged as part of the National Forestry Week.

Members of Parliament Sylvie Berube, Gary Vidal and Marcus Powlowski joined MacKinnon to visit the mill that helped found the city of Gatineau when it first opened in 1926.

In a Paper Excellence press statement, the company shares that the newsprint produced at the Gatineau paper mill is made from biomass sourcing 100 percent of its electricity from renewable hydroelectricity. It explains that the mill is a sustainability success story and has reduced its indirect emissions by 90% since 2015. Forests managed in the Outaouais are certified to sustainable forestry standards such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

The newsprint for the paper edition of the Sunday New York Times, for example, comes from this mill. The paper is printed digitally in Canada and the mill produces 1 kilometer of newsprint every minute.
