BC sawmill closures to affect Domtar’s chip supply at Kamloops pulp mill

June 21, 2019  By P&PC Staff

June 21, 2019 – Closures at sawmills in British Columbia will have some impact on chip supply at Domtar’s Kamloops pulp mill, representatives say.

Domtar spokesperson Bonny Skene told Kamloops news outlet CFJC Today that Canfor’s Vavenby sawmill, which is slated to close, provided slightly more than 10 per cent of Domtar Kamloops’ wood chip intake.

She notes that the mill is currently sourcing alternatives.

In addition, Canfor’s forest tenure may be transferred to Interfor, which Skene says could further impact Domtar’s fibre supply.
