The Journal of Pulp and Paper Science has recently appointed DR. ADRIAAN R.P. van HEININGEN as associate scientific editor. He is a professor in the department of chemical engineering at University of Maine in Orono, ME.

Ciba Specialty Chemicals Canada Inc., Mississauga, ON, has named CLAUDIO D’AMBROSIO its president and chief executive officer. He succeeds JOHN RANKIN, who retired on September 1.

Le Groupe Laperrire et Verreault of Montreal, QC, has appointed VICTOR L. BILODEAU president of the company’s pulp and paper group. He will reside in Atlanta, GA.

DR. DIMITRI S. ARGYROPOULOS has been elected as a fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science. He is a Paprican adjunct professor in the department of chemistry at McGill University’s Pulp and Paper Research Centre in Montreal, QC.

The Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada has appointed NAMAT ELKOUCHE technical co-ordinator. She recently graduated from McGill University with a master’s in chemical engineering in the pulp and paper applied program.

DR. RAJINDER SETH has garnered TAPPI’s Process and Product Quality Division 1999 Technical Award and Richard S. Hunter Prize. Dr. Seth is a principal scientist at Paprican in Vancouver, BC, where he heads the fibre quality group.

National Starch & Chemical Company of Bridgewater, NJ, has made a few appointments: ROGER JEFFCOAT to senior divisional vice-president, natural polymer research and biotechnology for the starch division; DENNIS BOYD to director of marketing, paper chemicals, industrial starch division; and TERENCE THOMAS to director of corporate accounts, papermaking chemicals, industrial starch division.

Georgia-Pacific Corporation of Port Edwards, WI, has made two appointments to its Wisconsin operations: RICHARD ROWE as paper machines maintenance planner; and CRAIG GILDENZOPF as technical assistant.

Fisher Rosemount of St. Louis, MI, has named JOHN M. BERRA senior vice-president with responsibility for Emerson Electric Co.’s process control business. Fisher Rosemount is a business unit of Emerson.
