Paper Excellence announces impact of labour shortage on business

May 11, 2022  By P&PC Staff

Paper Excellence shared an update on the impact of the shortage of skilled labour in British Columbia. The company noted in a statement that the labour shortage has impacted its ability to carry out many of its planned shutdowns on time.

Paper Excellence explained that it has been dealing with delays due to shortages of skilled pressure vessel welders at its Crofton facility. This will impact the length of the shutdown and consequently result in incremental lost pulp production due to the delays.

The company is concerned that similar shortages will impact upcoming shutdowns at Howe Sound and Skookumchuck. Paper Excellence is currently expecting a loss of about 10,000 tonnes of NBSK pulp production in total across all three sites.

The company added that it can supply pulp products to its customers from its other unaffected mills during these delays.
