Peter Tyne, Product Improvement Manager, NorskeCanada in Campbell River, BC, has been elected as chairman of PAPTAC for 2003.

To succeed the retiring Councillors who have completed three-year terms of office, Andr Legault (V-P, Operations, Papier Masson, Masson-Angers, QC); Stuart W. Scott (woodroom/woodyard superintendent, UPM-Kymmene Miramichi, Miramichi, NB) and Joseph Costantino (V-P, Operations, Millar Western Forest Products, Edmonton, AB) will serve as new members of the Executive Council, for 2003-2005.

Continuing their three-year terms as Councillors are James L. Collins (senior process engineer, Marathon Pulp, Marathon, ON), William Hellyer (manager – Technical & Development & Strategic Opportunities, Canadian Forest Products, Prince George, BC), Nicole Roberge (superintendent, Technical Services, Papiers Stadacona, Quebec, QC), Seldon MacKenzie (manager, Development Projects, Stora Enso North America, Port Hawkesbury, NS) and Harold Norlund (Mill Manager, Daishowa America, Port Angeles, WA).

Tyne began his career in the pulp and paper industry in 1971 as a summer student at MacMillan Bloedel’s Powell River Division. After graduating in 1974 with an Honours B.Sc. in microbiology from the University of Guelph, he joined the Alberni Pulp and Paper Division of MacMillan Bloedel, where he held various technical and production positions. In 1983, he moved to Crown Forest’s Elk Falls mill in Campbell River, BC, where he was technical assistant to the manager, and later technical group leader, Printing Papers for Fletcher Challenge, then Norske Skog Canada and, finally, NorskeCanada. He is currently Product Improvement Manager for NorskeCanada.

Tyne joined the Technical Section, CPPA, in 1974, and served for a number of years on the Water Removal/Paper Machine Technology Committee, which he chaired from 1987 to 1989. He received the F.G. Robinson Committee Service Award in 1990. He participated on the PACWEST Conference Committee from 1994 to 1997, chairing this joint conference in 1997 and was a PAPTAC Executive Councillor from 1999 to 2001.#text2#
