J&L Fiber Services appointed ANDREW WALLER as applications manager for Asia Pacific/South Africa. Waller has 10 years of experience in the pulp and paper industry. MARK D. FRITH is appointed as technical director – high consistency refining. He will oversee implementation projects at Bowater in Thunder Bay and Dolbeau, Abitibi-Consolidated in Clermont, and Kruger in Trois Rivieres.

RYAN ROBERTS was appointed VP and general manager of Invensys’ Avantis business group. He will lead initiatives to develop and market Avantis enterprise asset management solutions.

LINDA LEONE of Solvay Paperboard LLC is the recipient of the first Mill Buyer Award from the Recycling Today Media Group, given to a paper industry leader. Leone was responsible for the recovered paper procurement program for the Solvay mill.

Ainsworth Lumber’s chief financial officer JIM LOGAN left the company. Ainsworth initiated a search committee to secure a replacement.

BRUCE LYNE, formerly of International Paper, becomes president of YKI, replacing MARTIN MALMSTEN, who has left for a professorship at Uppsala University.

THOMAS R. NORTON, VP of operations at the York (Pa.) Newspaper Co., was named managing director of NAA-Ifra Technical Solutions LCC, a new joint operation between the Newspaper Association of America and Ifra, a German-based international association.

The Canadian Wood Council gave the 2003 Robert F. DeGrace Award to CARL WILSON, chairman of the CSA standard 086 committee that governs wood design in Canada. The award recognizes technical achievement who has advanced the use of wood as an engineering and construction material.

Stora Enso announces the appointment of LARS-GUNNAR ALMYRD to senior VP, Stora Enso Transport and Distribution. He will be based in Stockholm.

Imerys Pigments for Paper promoted ANDREA HUELS to the position of director of marketing, Paper Americas Division.

International Paper and the Conservation Fund recognized STEPHEN BLACKMER, president and founder of the Northern Forest Center, and GENE EIDSON, founder and president of the Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy, for their unique appreciation for the environment and their outstanding efforts to protect natural resources through leadership in conservation and education.#text2#
