A webinar to discuss the prevention of bacteria-generated explosions in pulp and paper mills is being offered by Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology.

Bacteria in paper mills are capable of generating explosive gases under ideal conditions. This has led to deadly explosions in several mills. This webinar will present proven techniques and procedures that can prevent such accidents. It is geared for process engineers, technical superintendents, safety directors and mill suppliers.

The webinar, Safe Methods to Prevent Bacteria-Generated Gas Explosions in Pulp and Paper Mills, will be held Dec. 5, 2013, from 12 to 2:00 p.m. Central Time. The cost is US$80.

Instructor Dave Vachavake worked in the pulp and paper industry for more than 20 years. He was a technical superintendent at Wisconsin mill when the mill experienced an explosion from bacteria-generated gas. Vachavake has also written about explosion-prevention methods for Paper 360.
