January 14 was a sad day for workers at Weyerhaeuser’s paper mill in Prince Albert, SK. Although reports of a ‘glimmer of hope’ for the facility are still being released, the paper mill officially shut its doors last week, and the 100 people who worked there lost their jobs.
The pulp side of the operation is scheduled to close in the spring, unless a new owner can be secured prior to that time. If a buyer isn’t found, the remaining 600 employees will also be thrown out of work.
