“Closing a facility is always difficult,” says Sonoco’s senior vice president Jack Sanders. He speaks with experience.

The company’s tube and core plant in Brantford, Ontario is set to shut down by the fourth quarter of 2007, only one of 12 scheduled closures. Although the facility has 44 employees, Sanders noted, “Sonoco has adequate capacity to absorb the volume from the Brantford plant, and the closing will not adversely impact the company’s ability to serve its markets and customers.”

Several of the 44 workers will likely be transferred to other locations.
