Sault Ste. Marie, ON The McGuinty government is welcoming the restarting of St. Marys Paper with open arms.

The reopening of St. Marys Paper is great news for the entire community, said David Orazietti, MPP for Sault Ste. Marie. We have followed through on a commitment to do everything possible to help the mill reopen, and to ensure that workers and their families benefit from having stable jobs, and that the local economy remains diversified.

The government provided the mill with a $17 million loan for working capital, and the facility is also eligible for funding under the Forest Sector Prosperity Fund and the Northern Pulp and Paper Electricity Transition program, upon application and approval. Further, the existing wood supply for the mill was assured.

We were pleased to make some significant commitments of support to the purchasers of the facility to help ensure that it would reopen, said Minister of Natural Resources David Ramsay. This facility is a major employer in Sault Ste. Marie, and were happy to be able to help preserve these jobs and to mark its grand opening.

On June 4, St. Marys Paper Corporation was approved to acquire St. Marys Paper Limited.
