Tembec is taking production shutdowns at its Pine Falls, MB newsprint mill. The first will come into effect on September 2, and will last for one week. The second, starting on December 24, will last four days.

The combined effect of these shutdowns will result in a reduction in production of close to 6,000 tonnes of newsprint, said Chris Black, senior vice president, newsprint division. The continuing weak newsprint market, coupled with the recent strengthening of the Canadian dollar warrant these temporary curtailments.

The Pine Falls facility has an annual production capacity of 180,000 tonnes and provides employment for 320 people. Management has already met with employees to inform them of the shutdowns.
