The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union has struck a deal with Weyerhaeuser. Thunder Bay’s the Chronicle Journal has reported that a collective agreement between the CEP and the company’s mill in Dryden, ON, will see the facility’s 700 pulp, paper and woodland workers bank an 11.5% wage increase over the next five years. Also addressed in the accord are improvements to shift premiums, vacation time, working conditions, pension, life insurance, health and vision benefits. The deal is post factum to September 1st, 2004, and will last until September 1st, 2009.

The company has also acceded to renew all job security and contracting-out provisions included in the prior contract, and is also looking into the development of safety awards and recognition programs for employees.
