June 30th marked the closure of Canfor’s Hines Creek sawmill. The operation, which churned out roughly 100 million feet of board a year, was one of the largest employers in the Village of Hines Creek, providing jobs for 98 hourly employees and 15 office staff. A significant number of the employees will transfer to Canfor’s facilities in Grand Prairie, Fort St. John, Chetwynd and Prince George. Lumber that was previously processed in Hines Creek will now be sent to Grand Prairie.
