Cascades Tissue Group has purchased the assets of Newstech MD, stationed in Hagerstown, Maryland. The deinking mill was built in 1995. Although it has not been operational since the spring of 1997, the facility is equipped with two lines of deinking pulp and has a total production capacity of 400 tonnes per day.

Cascades feels the purchase is a strategic one, allowing the company to bolster its production capacity, without having to shell out significant amounts of capital.

“This transaction enables us to acquire excellent production equipment at a very attractice price,” Suzanne Blanchet, president and CEO of Cascades Tissue said. “Over the next few months, we will use them either to improve our production of deinking pulp or in the production of tissue paper.”
