MONTREAL, QC — St. Laurent Paper Products Corp., West Point, VA, was served with a Notice of Violation by the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the state of Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for alleged environmental violations dating to the 1970s. West Point is a subsidiary of Montreal-based St. Laurent Paperboard Inc., which acquired the 920 000-tpy containerboard mill from Chesapeake Corp. in May 1997. St. Laurent said it has cooperated fully with EPA and DEQ investigators, allowing on-site inspections and detailed permit reviews, and will continue to do so until the matter is resolved.
