The morning of February 7 marked an impromptu shut down of Canfor’s Intercontinental Pulp mill. A sudden equipment malfunction in the bleach plant injured two employees who were in the area at the time, and who were taken to hospital for observation. Both were later released.

The bleach plant is expected to remain inoperative until replacement equipment is bought and installed. A statement from the mill confirmed the bleach plant will not start up again until officials are certain it can run safely. An investigation is currently underway to determine what caused the equipment malfunction. The entire process is expected to take several weeks.
