HIGH PRAIRIE, AB — Tolko Industries and Buchanan Lumber signed a long-term, joint forest management agreement (FMA).

The agreement, a first in Alberta, is based on integrated management of coniferous and deciduous species in a shared, area-based tenure. The joint FMA will support in part the oriented standboard and sawmill operations of the two partners.

Negotiated with the Alberta government, the collaboration aims to duplicate the natural condition of the boreal forest where both companies operate, while recognizing the unique challenge of coniferous reforestation. It also aims to improve environmental and forest management, and reduce log costs for both companies due to coordinated planning.

Joining hands for nature (L-R): Al Thorlakson, President & CEO, Tolko Industries Ltd. and Gordon Buchanan, President, Buchanan Lumber.
