FSC Canada calls for applications to join Standards Development Group

December 15, 2022  By P&PC Staff

FSC Canada is currently seeking members to fill positions in its Standards Development Group.

In 2019, FSC Canada launched its new Forest Management Standard which replaced the regional forest management standards. The new standard does not have, for example, requirements for small-scale, low intensity and community forests, as well as enhanced indicators for intact forest landscapes and Indigenous cultural landscapes. Developing these requirements will help ensure that Canadian forests can continue to be FSC certified under the new rules as well as provide better access to FSC certification.

In carrying out this work, FSC Canada has assembled an eight-person Standards Development Group (SDG) related to forest management. The SDG includes two members per chamber (Aboriginal, Environmental, Social and Economic).

Some members from the current group are retiring after many years of collaboration. FSC Canada is therefore looking for applicants to represent:

  • the Aboriginal chamber, and
  • the Environmental chamber

These are voluntary positions. The members provide oversight and strategic direction in the development of Intact Forest Landscape and Indigenous Cultural Landscape indicators as well as other standards-related tasks.

FSC Canada has requested applicants to send their interest and contact information to Vivian Peachey v.peachey@ca.fsc.org by January 13, 2023.
