J.D. Irving shared in a press statement that its pulp and paper division set a record in 2023 for the highest number of new employees hired in a calendar year with 80 new full-time hires and 100 students brought on.

According to the company, hiring occurred in all areas of operations across Saint John and St. George, New Brunswick including skilled trades, engineers and business professionals. The hiring was the result of retirements, business growth and normal workforce turnover.

“We are committed to investing in our people and growing a diverse pipeline of talent for generations to come,” says Mark Mosher, vice-president of the pulp and paper division.

As part of the new cohort of employees, many were new graduates of Atlantic Canadian post-secondary institutions. The company says that this is demonstrative of the division’s strong co-op program, creating opportunities for local talent to easily transition from a student position to a full-time role.

The company’s pulp and paper division is continuing to recruit.
