Mercer International’s Celgar pulp mill in Castlegar, B.C. is preparing for its annual maintenance shutdown next month.
According to the Nelson Star, about 500 workers will be on site from March 6 to 26 to execute the $20-million shutdown.
The mill has been working to ensure the community is satisfied with the COVID-19 protocols in place, including masks, physical distancing and additional sanitization measures.
Mercer Celgar will also be using local contractors who have a vested interest in community safety wherever possible.
The Castlegar region has not seen a new COVID-19 case reported for six weeks.
