Senior vice president of Weyerhaeuser’s residential wood products division Lee T. Alford and Craig D. Neeser, senior vice president of industrial wood products and international, retired on Oct. 1. Executive vice president Thomas F. Gideon now leads residential wood products in addition to his current duties, while JamesM. Branson, senior vice president of timberlands, added industrial wood products and international to his portfolio.

University of New Brunswick forestry professor David MacLean received the Canadian Forestry Scientific Achievement Award. The accolade recognizes unique and outstanding achievement and encourages excellence in forestry research.

Paper Packaging Canada has named its first board of directors. Colin Fernie of Smurfit-MBI is chairman, while Bob Hagan of Atlantic Packaging is vice chairmen. Franois Guit of Norampac represents Canada’s packaging mills as second vice chairman, and Charles Malo of Norampac assumes the role of secretary/treasurer. Other directors elected include Chris Bartlett of TenCorr Packaging, Jim Levia from Emballages Mitchel-Lincoln, Gary Johnson from Maritime Paper Products Ltd., James Devries of Crown Packaging, independent corrugator Larry Cooper, Marc Rolland of MontCorr Packaging, Kruger’s Michel Dubuc, Keith Munt from Propak Limited, Peter Moore of Moore Packaging and Curtis MacMillan from Master Packaging. The Paper and Paperboard Packaging Environmental Council (PPEC) is represented by its chairman, Charles Parlagreco from Astro Box.

The American Forest and Paper Association has named Paul Noe vice president for public policy. Thomas Jacob has been appointed deputy CEO and managing director of the Greater Asia and Pacific region for IFRA. He will be based in Singapore.

Montalvo, specialist in industrial web control systems, has hired TaithJ. Rupp to its industrial sales staff. Rupp will identify key product benefits, facilitate access to product information and keep the company’s sales representatives and its customers informed.
