Thanks to a $3,000,000 federal investment, coupled with a $2 million contribution from companies Abitibi-Consolidated, Bowater, FERIC, FORINTEK, Unifret, and several other Quebec-based organizations, a new industrial research chair in silviculture and wildlife will be set up at Laval University.

"Forests constitute an $81 billion industry that directly employs 376,000 Canadians," said David L. Emerson, Minister of Industry and the minister responsible for Science and Engineering Research Canada (NSERC). "This new chair’s research program is both innovative and relevant as it will help raise the forest industry’s competitive standing while ensuring knowledge transfer to the communities and enterprises of the North Shore."
