Resolute celebrates Indigenous-led education

June 15, 2023  By P&PC Staff

Resolute donated C$25,000 to the Lac des Mille Lacs Education Centres in 2021, recognizing its potential to create lasting positive effects in the lives of local youth. Four years after their founding, the Lac des Mille Lacs Education Centres are a resounding success, says the company.

Resolute adds that the innovative, multicultural, Indigenous-led education centers in Northwestern Ontario are expecting to double their enrollment. About half of the 300 current students come from Indigenous communities. Last May, the company visited the I.R. Churchill location to deliver a presentation on Forestry 101 to students at the junior high school level.

Embracing a holistic, inclusive approach, the organization offers educational programming from early childhood levels up to Grade 12. The curriculum features experiential and land-based activities, as well as Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language instruction. The organization also proudly boasts a robust hockey program.

For over 25 years, Resolute and Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation have enjoyed a mutually beneficial partnership. Members of the Treaty 3 Nation participate in forest management, land use planning and local citizen committees, contributing valuable perspectives and expertise. Resolute is committed to supporting and maintaining constructive relationships with First Nations and other Indigenous communities in its operating regions in Canada.

Resolute shares that the future is bright for the Lac des Mille Lacs Education Centres and the company is honoured to be part of their inspiring vision.
