Cranbrook, BC-Tembec is drumming up early interest in the forestry industry with its involvement in the Youth Exploring Skills to Industry Training, or YES 2 IT.

The program, targeted at students in grades six to nine, provides kids with opportunities to experience some of the hands-on skills used in trade occupations, and to make connections with trades people in their communities.

As part of the program, Tembec brought in 45 students from three schools in BC to tour its Cranbrook Finger Joint facility.

“In a context of shortage of qualified labour and challenging demographics, trade careers offer great lifetime work opportunities,” said Jean-Luc Carrire, senior vice president, Forest Products Group -BC. “Our children’s future starts now and Tembec is proud to contribute to a great future for British Columbia.”
