Finnish papermaker UPM has ensured that all its pulp and paper mills now have ISO 14001 certified environmental management. The first mill to earn certification was the company’s Kymi mill in Finland, in 1995. July of this year marked the completion of the process, with the Miramichi mill in Canada. At the same time, the mill was also certified to OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety.

The foundation for the certifications is based on an attempt to minimize the effects of paper production on the environment.
