A Georgia-Pacific employee was killed at the company’s Savannah River Mill facility the morning of August 16.

Company spokesperson Carrie Thompson confirmed the accident occurred in the paper machine, and that an investigation is underway.

According to a report by the Rome News Tribune, no further information relating to the incident has been released, but Occupational Health and Safety Association investigators are currently investigating the fatality.

The incident is the second work-related death for the plant in less than a year, the report confirmed. In November, 2007, a woman was injured at the plant and later succumbed to her injuries.

The mill was cited for two violations relating to that accident, which Georgia-Pacific contested.
