Irving p&p cited for preventing pollution
SAINT JOHN, NB — Irving Pulp and Paper in Saint John, NB, has reduced its effluent discharges by 2.8 million kg between 1995 and 2000, thus achieving the second highest decrease in surface water discharges in North America.
This achievement is cited in the North American Commission for Environmental Co-operation (CEC) report.
The mill patented a reverse osmosis technology to reduce and recycle wastewater, while most mills built conventional secondary treatment lagoons. This innovation is a world-first application to filter the water used in the pulp-making process.#text2#
