Tembec Delays Harvesting (July 01, 2008)

Temiscaming, QC-Tembec is holding off on harvesting in the Northern Ontario West region. The company has announced plans not to resume harvesting in the area until late fall, a decision that will temporarily put 100 employees out of work.

Tembec has confirmed it has an ample supply of logs to meet its production requirements, and that stockpiles in mill yards and inventories in the bush mean it won’t be necessary to harvest more logs for six months.

“To minimize the impact on our employees, we intend to start our harvesting early in November for the the Gordon Cosens Forest, and a few weeks later in the Hearst Forest,” said Mike Martel, vice president for Tembec’s Ontario Division.
