A series of public forums starting on July 6 will provide Northern Ontarians with an opportunity to voice their concern over the economic crisis facing the area due to a struggling forestry sector.
The meetings, sponsored by the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union, are seeking to examine and evaluate all possible ideas for revitalizing the Northern economy through job preservation and creation. Hot topics are expected to be energy costs, the establishment of value-added jobs, and the control of cutting rights on Crown land.
The people of Northern Ontario deserve to be heard, the CEP said. We intend to listen, compile a report and make sure the views and visions are on the agenda during the upcoming provincial election.
